There is nothing better than jumping into a cool and
inviting swimming pool on a hot summer day. So you want to be sure you keep
your swimming pool looking great this summer so your residents and their
friends can enjoy it during the entire season. So here are a few tips from the certified
pool operators here at Building Maintenance Management. You can call us any
time you need commercial
pool maintenance in Minneapolis and the surrounding areas.
Make sure you regularly skim the pool’s surface and clean
the baskets. Do these tasks every couple of days to ensure that scum and sludge
do not build up on the bottom of the pool. It can also help increase the pool’s
circulation ability and lower the amount of chlorine it demands.
Once a week, vacuum the pool and brush the tiles and walls. This
helps to keep the pool looking nice and clear while reducing the amount of
chemicals it needs.
Keeping the pool filter clean is another important aspect of
maintaining your swimming pool. It should be cleaned periodically, but you are
going to want to look at the filter itself to see how often the manufacturer
recommends cleaning it. A bit of dirt on the filter is a good thing since that
helps catch more of the dirt that is passing through, but the filter should
definitely be cleaned when there is a lot of dirt in it.
It might surprise you, but the part of your pool that
actually requires the least amount of maintenance is your pool heater. Just be
sure you get it looked at by professionals every couple of years to make sure
it’s running like it should be.
Be sure you check the water level of your pool regularly. Water
evaporates or gets splashed out of the pool, so check water levels as you are
skimming the surface. Use a hose to replenish the water levels if it’s needed. That
way, there is less of a strain on the pump too.
Keep an eye on your pool’s pH level. You want to aim for
about 7.2 to 7.8. That is the best range for safe swimming and it allows the
pool chemicals to work the most effectively.
Be sure you shock the water on occasion too. Depending on
your pool’s manual, this should be done about once a week. This helps with that
distinctive chlorine smells that pools are known to give off.
