Save Energy (and Money) When Using Your Home Appliances

It is safe to assume that almost everyone out there loves saving money on their electric bills. And as more people become aware of the issues that face our planet, like pollution, they are becoming more concerned with their carbon footprint and how they can help save the planet. Our commercial property maintenance team has a few energy saving tips you can use at home to help save some money and the planet while you’re at it.

When you are done eating your food, you should let it cool on the counters. Then put it in your refrigerator. That way, your fridge doesn’t have to work as hard to cool your food.

When you run your dishwasher, try to do it during the evening hours when the inside and outside of your house are cooler. This helps prevent heat from building up in your kitchen.

When you use your microwave, arrange your food so the thicker bits are on the outside of your plate and the smaller, thinner bits are in the middle of your plate. That way, the food will heat evenly and you will not have to repeatedly microwave it to get everything warmed up.

When you use your freezer, try to keep it as full of food as possible. It sounds counter-intuitive, but the fuller your freezer is, the more efficiently it will work and keep your food cold.

When you use your oven, use ceramic cookware. It will cook your food more efficiently and you could reduce the temperature of your oven by about 25 degrees.

When you need a new hot water heater, try to get one that is an energy efficient or tankless model. These will heat up your water faster and you will probably save some money on your electric bill since they run more efficiently than the older models.

Often, the federal and state governments will give you a tax credit if you purchase energy efficient appliances. The credits and the rules surrounding them change on a yearly basis, so check with the IRS and your state tax department to get more details about this.

These are only a few ways to save money on your electric bill. You can get creative and find other ways to save a few bucks too!
